Jaci In New Book "Walk" It's tough being a teen today--even if you're a famous teen! The authors of this book, Christian music artists such as Rebecca St. James, Jennifer Knapp, Jaci Velasquez, Nicole C. Mullen, Ginny Owens, Natalie LaRue, and Stacie Orrico, have been where every teen girl finds herself. These well-known artists share practical, Bible-based advice in a conversational tone that teens will enjoy and parents will approve. Each of the 52 devotionals addresses a single "teen" topic such as weight, grades, or racism and points to Scripture for answers. Also included in this devotional for teen girls are photos and bios for each artist, discussion questions, and a topical index. The hard cover, 150-page-book is scheduled to release June 15, 2003. Message From Jaci's Brother Jaci's brother, Dion, spoke out May 5 about the controversy surrounding Jaci's participation in "Chasing Papi." Here is his message: Hey how ya doin!! You don't know me but I am Jaci's brother. Did you know that when Jaci got the script for the movie it was rated R. Because of the changes they made for Jaci the movie turned into a PG movie. I don't know any unknown actor who would have the opportunity to change so much of a script. By Jaci standing up for who she is it changed the entire direction of an entire movie. Ten Million Dollars is the whole price tag for Chasing Papi. How many Christians have shaped a ten-million dollar train bound for R and took it to PG. I pray that there are more people who will use what God has given them to impact a culture instead of preaching to the same choir. Jaci's ministry in this movie wasn't that people would see the movie and find a Christian theme....Jaci's ministry in this movie is that she changed the minds of a whole studio who could have cared less what a Christian singer from Tennessee had to say; but, for some reason felt compelled to listen. Now God has one more case of integrity in a world where there is none. The fact that a studio like fox was impressed by anyone claiming to be a Christian is news to celebrate. When Fox finished this movie with Jaci they were talking about how kind and how cool she was for being a Christian. The only encounter they have had with Christians had been tainted with the fact that they were judgmental and holier than thou. That is what they think of us. And from reading what Christians are saying about Jaci I can understand what they mean. Focus On The Family gave a better review to Sweet Home Alabama even though Reese Witherspoon's character cheats on her husband, passes out in a bar, cusses, and uses the Lords name in vain. When you see this movie and realize that Jaci does not drink, does not cuss and is so covered up.....I hope you have the heart to e-mail Jaci and let her know that you have made up your own mind and if you find dissappointment in her then you will have done so after seeing the movie for yourself. But I do appreciate your support of Jaci and that you found her to be a blessing in your life. I hope all of that is not wasted on letting a few outspoken critics who tear down everything they see influence you. All I ask is that you see the movie for yourself. Also, when Fox was discussing future roles for Jaci when we were doing promotions for the movie in New York I heard them saying things like"oh! Jaci can't do that role it would require her to show too much skin..maybe the role of so and so would be better.." The point is they were having discussions as if she were their daughter and they themselves were editing what Jaci should or shouldn't do because of the encounter they have had with her. I know Christ will have alot more grace and mercy when the day of judgement comes on some of those who've shown a lot less to Jaci...and may your hearts and souls be glad for that. I wish all of you the best. Jaci will continue to sing for Christ even if he is the only one listening. She had not read these boards till last night from LA. I answered the phone at 3:30 in the morning to Jaci in tears. She said she had read these things here and she was heart broken. I say we don't drive another Christian out of the Church. I am not talking about just Jaci, I am talking about Stacie Orrico, Carmen, Amy Grant, Sandi Patti, Reliant K, Chevelle, Sixpence and anyone who has a voice in a world that is so very dark. People always talk about what kind of example Jaci is or is not being and I have to ask what kind of example are we being to her? Are we like Christ? If any one, including those who don't put their names on reviews at sites like Focus On The Family, has not fallen short of the Glory of God please let me know your secret to perfection. I'll be the first one there. Of course Jaci is more likely to find Christ walking among those whom the Church would assume keep out. I'm tired of the Country club we have all been a part of building...how about setting our sights on the broken hearted and the poor and the hurting. I listen to Jaci's new record and it is the most minsistry driven records she has ever made. All of the answers to your questions about Jaci are there in her own words. "So tomorrow morninng when we step outside our castle..We think before we let the judgement calls unravel...Our Savior said to love each other...Why must we go on hurting one another...Though it may be easier to run and hide...I'm gonna let you in cause i can take it...You can throw those stones...Even though I may be fragile...You're not gonna see me shatter no...'Cause I know who I am and I won't fake it...I'm gonna take a stand 'Cause it's my faith that keeps me strong...And the light is on in my Glass House..." Jaci Velasquez (Glass House) My cousin Eddie whom our family has been ministering to for years read what some people have been saying about Jaci and he actually said "why would I want to be a Christian?...you keep saying I should be a part of the body of Christ and then I see things like this and I think ..no thanks I'll just stay at home and read my Bible." God Bless Dion Discuss Jaci Appears On "The Caroline Rhea Show" Recently, Jaci paid a visit to "The Caroline Rhea Show," where she was interviewed and took part in a game. "Chasing Papi" Box Office Debut In its first week of limited release, "Chasing Papi" took in $2.2 million dollars, enough to debut at #11 on the U.S. Box Office Charts. On its first day, the film debuted at #17, the highest ranked film in less than 600 theatres (it was in 583). "We would have liked the numbers to be higher, but we're still pleased," the studio's distribution chief, Rick Myerson, told USA Today. "This is one of the first Hispanic films a studio has done that hasn't been for the art-house crowd. We think there will be a market for these films," Myerson said. The box-office for the film may also have been hurt by generally poor - and sometimes devastating - reviews. Discuss

First Review Of "Unspoken" Is In From CM Central comes the first review of Unspoken: Jaci Velasquez' Unspoken could have been titled Jaci Gets Real. More than anything else, it's striking how the album takes the listener on a journey of discovery, dropping any hint of pretense and exposing Velasquez' inner self for all the world to see. And it's a revelation that's going to shake things up. Here's your first look. You're My God - It's a bold move for an artist with such strong mainstream crossover potential to start her album with two songs that not only mention God by name, but actually include His name in the song titles. This happy-go-lucky little mid-tempo pop track will have you tapping your feet in time. The message is simple: life is tough, but God is still good. Jesus - A slow drum loop kicks off this ode to Jesus, written from a personal perspective. By the end it becomes this big, grand anthem with a full choir. A sure-fire radio hit in the making. Lost Without You - Pop sounds mingle with rock guitars on this track where Jaci confesses that regardless of how hard she falls or how much she wants to do things on her own, she knows she's lost without God. Where I Belong - An acoustic guitar/drum loop thing with a lovely melody. Another song about how God rescues us and calms our fears and never leaves us. Methinks I sense a pattern emerging... The Real Me - Probably the highest-energy song yet. In a departure from all of the other songs thus far, Jaci switches gears and gets personal, talking about herself and how others see her. She mentions how she's been criticised, but that she's still just a human being, and asks the listener if they're ready to face "the real me," which comes complete with mistakes, emotions, and reality. Great song that makes a bold statement. He - The first hint of Latin flavor enters into the album on this great pop track. She continues to advance on the ongoing theme here: she's imperfect, but "He" is working on her. Glass House - A modern pop track that ties together the themes of the previous two songs. Jaci refers to her life as a fragile "glass house," but regardless she's stronger than you expect and can take any stones you throw at her. Another bold, pointed statement. Your Friend - Jaci addresses a nondescript friend who she pledges to stick by no matter what. If there's one odd man out on this record, this is it. It's not a bad song; it just doesn't tie in with the rest of the disc's themes. Another mid-tempo track (lots of those on Unspoken -- not quite high-energy pop, but not slow enough to be considered ballads, either). Something - A song that ponders meaning in the hard times. The music is a perfect accompaniment to the words -- every bit as curious and questioning as the lyrics themselves. Unspoken - A full-out pop anthem. Warns that no one should "leave your heart unspoken / God heals us when we're broken." I'm Alive - A ballad in which Jaci says she's "so glad to be alive." She talks about all of the wonders of living life. Shine -A laid-back little sing-along song, an encouragement to believers to shine in the darkness by living a virtuous life. Unspoken is shaping up to be an interesting new step in Jaci's artistic evolution. It lands on March 25, 2003.

Jaci Speaks Out On "Unspoken" Platinum-selling vocalist Jaci Velásquez takes a bold new stride in her upcoming March 25 release. Most recent recipient of a Latin Billboard Music Award in the Pop Album of the Year- Female category, Word Records' recording artist Jaci Velásquez co-wrote seven of the 12 songs included on her upcoming musical offering Unspoken. "These songs reveal things I've always felt, but never have been able to come out and say," reflects the 22-year-old Velásquez. "This album really is all about those emotions and ideas that have been left unspoken till now. Being able to record songs that I've actually written myself makes it all the more important to me." Unspoken, recorded in Nashville, Los Angeles and Miami, boasts a high-profile lineup of producers including Matthew Gerrard (Nick Carter, Bebe Mack, Plus One), Tommy Sims (Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, India Arie, Amy Grant), and Emilio Estefan (Gloria Estefan, Shakira, Ricky Martin). Velásquez herself also produced one cut, "Your Friend," along with her band members. Also notable is the list of writers with whom Velásquez partnered. Dove-award winning songwriter and artist Cindy Morgan teamed up with her to create "I'm Alive." This was a highlight as Velásquez explains that writing with Morgan was "a dream of mine since I first started in the music industry." Producer Matthew Gerrard also contributed on the songwriter front and co-wrote six cuts on the album. Others claiming songwriter credits include Bridget Benenate, Madeline Stone, Oran Hatch, Toby Gad, Tom McWilliams, Freddy Pinero Jr., Javier Solis, Abel Orta, Jamba, Chris Faulk, Hunter Davis, and Dillon O'Brian. Velásquez will embark on a nationwide tour in support of Unspoken in the spring as well as a second leg of dates in the Fall 2003. Fans can support the new album and tour by joining her street team at www.jacivelasquez.com. Also coming in 2003 is a Spanish language album from Velásquez on Sony Discos.
